Norma EN 17189 stanovuje metody zkoušení pro určení odolnosti vulkanizovaných elastomerů proti trhání a šíření trhlin. Zahrnuje přírodní i syntetické gumárenské materiály a definuje postupy testování na standardizovaných zkušebních vzorcích. Zkoušky strhávání měří schopnost materiálu odolávat iniciaci a propagaci trhlin při opakovaném namáhání, což jsou rozhodující parametry pro hodnocení trvanlivosti elastomerických komponent. Získaná data jsou nezbytná pro kritické aplikace v automobilovém průmyslu, stavebnictví a dalších oborech, kde je strukturální integritu prvotní.
